The wisest insect of them all….

Okay- this requires some input from your side…… I am interested to see who can guess…..

What is the only thing that can get you up at 2 o’clock in the morning? With all the lights on? And silently, painfully watching the room’s every movement? What is so cunning that as soon as you turn the lights on, it goes from this constant zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz to silence?

IN fact, I actually think it may be one of the smartest insects (there is a clue) to EVER exist!!! (Besides the cockroach which I think is mere determination then brain power).

It has now been 45 minutes, and there we sit. Frustrated, and tired! Annoyed!!

At some point I start to feel extreme paranoia and suddenly my whole body itches…. so now no longer just sitting, watching but scratching. Feeling for potential bumps.

Every now and again, one of us jumps up on the bed- with the pillow (slippers no longer work), and smashes at “something” which we are not entirely sure whether we actually hit. We examine the pillow constantly to see if there are actually any bits.

Then the fan goes on- HIGH- perhaps the wind will break him up into little pieces??

I wander what the dogs are thinking? (They in the passage behind our closed door).

I am talking about the ever elusive “mosquito”.

For the life of me, I cannot think of one single function that this creature may have, except to test our patience. And yes, I am convinced that while the lights are on, and we are scanning the white ceiling….. he is probably flying low against the wooden floors.

Eventually, eventually, eventually…… we decide that we need to spray Tabard (mosquito repellent) on ourselves.

You would think that would be an easy decision to make, however when that mosquito repellent leaves the can, we practically cannot breathe for a few seconds. Harsh stuff! I think if we sprayed enough, we would be able to repel ourselves. For the sinus sufferer, which what my knight and me are, there is always the chance that we may ruin the night anyway, due to the fact that we may not be able to breathe.

We need to leave the room for this, and we need to make sure we close that room behind us! It is harsh stuff.

Back to bed, toss and turn for sometime…and eventually, evetually, eventually we fall back to sleep.

A couple of hours later, the electric fence alarm goes and up my knight gets up to see if there is a problem. It is probably a rabbit….however someone has to still check………….. and turn it off. That is knight’s (one of) function.

Perhaps we were not meant to have a good night’s rest after all!!!

Now, next question…..Do we open the balcony doors tonight while we chat in bed, or do we close everything up as soon as it gets dark, and pretend it is the middle of winter? Who wins? He always seems to!!!

  1. here’s a comment back: someone should invent a way to wake up mosquitos and buzz around them and make them crazy. At 2 in the afternoon, bc that’s when they sleep. I think.
    thanks for posting! 😉

    • You have just made me think….. Where do those little f%&£$rs sleep? They seem to completely disappear…. Your idea would be super human, you can get working on it! Haha! Post me when ready. Thanks for the pop in. X

  2. Mosquitos are the WORST! Do you have screens on your windows and doors? How do they get in?

    • Haha….they get in because there are no screens on the doors and windows! But we could never do that……it would ruin our awesome view. Our bedroom doors just look out onto green land…… Screens would make the rooms small, and stuffy. So yes, will need to worry about mozzies….. Xx

  3. […] night we slept on the 15th floor, with the sliding doors completely open. Guess what- not a single (No, nothing, not one!!!) mosquito!!! Read that post to know what i think about mozzies. It was absolutely glorious! AND even better- […]
