Over the last week our electricity issue has come even “clearer into the light”. It seems as though we need to make a choice- it’s EITHER rain or lights….. and that choice is not really ours to make. (Although I have found myself praying about it at times). So yes, every time it rains….. we need to sit at a window and watch it, and hope that it  doesn’t last too long.  If any of you know our summers, they are filled with the most beautiful thunderstorms, and lots of rain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I published a post on the 10 of November 2010 (if I knew anything about computers I would add a hyperlink right here), called “no electricity and what’s my first thought?” To be completely honest I read it and realised that I really am quite shallow!!! Although the electricity issue was for far longer and not because of rain….now I am even making excuses for my shallowness!!!!! So that is maybe some background to the foundation of this post.

When the lights go out- we need to find the candles (our phones are far from enough), being city people- we don’t have a torch YET!!!! Wont be long though…. might end up with a torch in every room. So yes, then I am trying  to get the matches sorted (I actually get scared while lighting matches), and then trying to get the candle to stand on a plate (obviously I don’t have candle holders). Then I worry about candles falling over, and fire. I worry about my little girl not realising how serious that flame can be…… so it really is quite traumatic for this city girl turned half farmer want-to-be. Then there is the question of what are we going to do? So I tell my little girl stories until they are coming out her ears, then set up a candle and a book for myself. It’s not long before I hear my knight……”do you know how bad that is for your eyes?” Yes, yes, yes. Blah, blah, blah.

Let me add our neighbours have a generator….. and when the lights go out, their house looks like a Christmas decoration. Quite precious actually.

A day or two after publishing my post, I received a mail from my subscription to (My humbling experience was in the making…..although I didn’t realise it yet). One of the articles was titled “10 inspiring “Buy one Give one” projects.” ( )

My humbling experience started galloping forward….. and I literally had a tear or two streaming down my cheek as I read through some of the initiatives that companies are making. It is incredible. We looking at soccer balls, to baby clothes, to prescription glasses, to little girl’s dresses. These are all things that we all (I) take for granted!

Then smack, bang….. I was hit with an initiative called “”.

Something small in our lives.....but ever changing in some one else's.

Their mission:

” is to improve the daily lives of children and adults by providing clean and healthy lighting. We distribute environmentally friendly, rechargeable solar lights around the world, replacing dangerous and polluting kerosene lamps.”

I suddenly had a huge gut feel that I needed to do MY little bit. For $28 dollars, I donated a light!!! So, i am a step in the right direction……! At least!! The initiative is aiming for one million (that woudl be obvious in their name- right?). At that point they had received 18,121…… and my 1. Looking at it from that point of view, it all sound quite miniscule hey??? A long way to go.

So i challenge you all to visit the site…. and donate a light!!!
